Overview

Learn the essential principles for making the perfect cup of tea. You'll learn the importance of water temperature, steeping time and space for leaves as well as top tips for putting these into practice wherever you are and with whatever equipment you have to hand.

What to expect

One-to-One

In a one-to-one class I will go into more depth with you on the points of time, temperature and space when making loose leaf tea. We'll discuss the range of tea equipage available and I'll be recommending things that will personally help you or suit your specific tea making needs and lifestyle.

If you book a one-to-one class you'll be able to check your chosen teas with me in advance by email and I'll make any recommendations if needed to give you the best experience possible.

Have you got a tea hanging about in your cupboard and don't know what to do with it? In a one-to-one session I'll also help you identify and figure out how to brew that tea for best results.

Group

In a group class we'll cover the essentials and I'll help you understand why time, temperature and space are important in making tea. We'll look generally at equipment and I'll demonstrate each of the points while you join in and try making tea right and tea wrong for yourself. By doing this, you'll be able to understand first hand how to make tea that tastes great and how to correct your brewing if you make tea that doesn't taste good or is bitter. Simply changing how you make it can make a world of difference to taste.

What you need

You can take this class without any equipment, simply watch, listen and learn.

I strongly recommend getting involved, though, as the points we discuss will make more sense if you try them yourself.

I've recommended some equipment below to give you an idea of what is essential, better or ultimate.

Essentials
Kettle (electric or on the hob) for heating water
2 things to make tea in (teapot or jug)
Small sieve or tea strainer
Two cups

I'm a Tea Specialist and love sharing my knowledge and passion for tea with people. My goal is to help more people drink better tea and discover and appreciate this wonderful beverage more fully. I've studied the Japanese Tea Ceremony, both on the ground in Japan as well as from an academic perspective.

Over the past 6 years I've blogged about tea, set up an online tea emporium from scratch and run a speciality tea brand. I've recently been appointed as Tea Master in charge for a new start up tea brand in Malaysia. Working online, internationally is my game.

Over the past 3 years I've run a variety of popular, sell-out tea events in London. Introducing tea and teaching people about the different types of tea, how to brew it and ways of pairing with or using it in food. I've been featured in The Daily Telegraph with a tea recipe and was invited to Sofia last year to present on tea as part of 'Sofia London Week', appearing on national TV whilst there.

But above all, I get a real kick out of sharing my love of tea with people. I love that moment when someone tastes a good, properly made tea and is instantly transported to a taste place of wonder.
