With Yoga B Benjamin Parkes is a 37-year-old yoga teacher, father of two young sons Thor and Oak, and fiancée to Paper Tara. He lives with his family in an old Victorian three-storey house in Trowbridge, from where he runs his business teaching yoga in Wiltshire and Somerset. He teaches Hatha yoga and trained for two years with the Traditional Yoga Association in order to teach it. What sort of yoga is it? Ben teaches Hatha yoga, which means there is stretching, movement and breathing. Ben studied with the Traditional Yoga Association which was created by Swami Ambikananda to maintain the practice of the wide range of ancient yoga practices available. As well as asanas (physical postures) and pranayama (breathing) you can expect much more besides. Each class is different so you might experience vinyasa (flowing movement), mudras (hand symbols), meditation, mindfulness and internal reflection, bandhas (body breathing locks), chanting, massage, sound work, dynamic meditation, yoga philosophy and history, music, silence and more. Every class has a warm up at the beginning to prepare the body for safe movement and each class ends with a yoga nidra (relaxation). Ben has a good knowledge of anatomy and physiology and you can expect to learn about your body as you practice. It's the full story of yoga.
